Use Tiered/Volume Discount when a merchant wants to reward customers as they buy more items or spend more money. The template card says: “Offer tiered discounts based on quantity or cart value of items purchased.” The example shown in AIOD is “Buy 3+, Save 15%.”

When to use this template

Use this template for:
  • Buy 2 items, get 5% off.
  • Buy 3 or more items, get a larger percentage off.
  • Spend $100, get free shipping.
  • Spend more to unlock a free gift.
  • Volume discounts where each tier has its own reward.
  • Progress-bar offers that show customers how close they are to the next tier.
Use another template when the discount is a single item-level discount, a classic BOGO offer, a simple free gift with purchase, or a shipping-only discount without volume tiers.

Entry point

In Shopify admin, open Apps > AIOD Discount & Gift > Discount Templates. Click Create on the Tiered/Volume Discount card. AIOD opens a form titled Tiered/Volume Discount.

Top-level controls

The form is split into three tabs: AIOD shows a Discount Summary panel while the merchant configures the offer. The summary includes how customers apply the discount, discount type, target, tier details, discount combinations, and Shopify rule size. AIOD can show a theme-extension alert at the top of the form. The alert says Required: Theme Extension Should Be Enabled and includes Activate theme extension. The merchant must save the Latest Widget Manager extension in the theme editor when using the storefront widget.

Status mode

The top-right status dropdown controls who can use or see the discount.

Offer settings

Use the Offer tab to define what qualifies for the discount and what the customer receives.

Where should this discount apply?

This section controls the products that can qualify for tier rewards. Options:
  • All products
  • Specific products
  • Specific collections
  • Specific variants
All products was selected by default in the observed form.

Minimum requirement

This section controls how customers unlock each tier. For All products, AIOD shows these requirement options: For Specific products, Specific collections, and Specific variants, AIOD shows these requirement options: When Cart quantity or Item quantity is selected, each tier uses Minimum Quantity. When Cart subtotal or Item subtotal is selected, each tier uses Minimum Subtotal.

Calculation method

The Calculation method card appears after the merchant selects a specific item target and an item-based requirement. It appears for these combinations: The card says: “Choose whether the condition applies across all selected items or individually.” Options: The examples change based on the requirement: The same card also shows Selected item scope with this helper text: “Choose how selected items are counted when checking the requirement.” Available Selected item scope options depend on the selected target: Across all selected items was selected by default in the observed form. For Any selected items, Across all selected items means the total quantity or subtotal across any selected items in the cart must meet the requirement. For Each selected item, Across all selected items means the quantity or subtotal for each selected item must meet the requirement.

Set up your discount tiers

Each tier defines a minimum requirement and a reward. The default observed tier was: Click Add another tier to add more tier levels.

Reward types

The Customer gets dropdown controls the reward for a tier. For percentage and fixed-amount rewards, Apply discount on has these options:
  • Product Discount (applies at line item, show in cart & checkout)
  • Order Discount (applies at order level, show in checkout)
For free gifts, AIOD tells merchants to ensure variants are active, in stock, and have a price greater than 0. The gift selector uses Select variants and shows No variants selected until variants are chosen. For shipping rewards, Shipping Discount Applies to has these options:
  • To all shipping methods
  • To specific shipping methods
  • To all shipping methods excluding these

Discount message

Percentage and fixed-amount tiers can include Discount Message (optional). The placeholder is Eg: Buy 2 get 10% off. AIOD explains that this message is visible to customers when tier conditions are met.

Reward behavior

This section controls whether AIOD applies one tier or multiple tiers.

Discount method

The How should this discount be applied? section controls whether the discount is automatic or code-based.

Automatic

Choose Automatic when the discount should apply automatically in the cart and at checkout. AIOD shows Title with placeholder Enter discount title. The title is shown to customers in cart and checkout.

Discount code

Choose Discount code when customers must enter a code at checkout. Settings shown in this mode:
  • Discount code input with placeholder Enter discount code.
  • Copy discount code.
  • Generate random code.
  • Add bulk discount codes.
  • Maximum Discount Code Uses.
Usage limit settings:
  • Limit number of times this discount can be used in total.
  • Limit to one use per customer.

Schedule

The Schedule section controls when the discount runs. Options:
  • Run continuously
  • Set a schedule
When Set a schedule is selected, AIOD shows:
  • Start date
  • Start time
  • End date
  • End time

Advanced settings

Use Advance settings to control eligibility, stacking, and channel behavior.

Customer eligibility

Choose who can use the discount. Options:
  • All customers
  • Specific customers
All customers was selected by default in the observed form.

Markets

Choose where the discount is available. Options:
  • All markets
  • All markets except specific selected countries
  • Specific selected countries
All markets was selected by default in the observed form.

Quantity limits

The Quantity Limits section controls how many items can receive the tier discount. Available controls:
  • Limit quantity of discounted items
  • Apply discount on the LEAST expensive items
Apply discount on the LEAST expensive items is disabled until quantity limiting is enabled.

Extra conditions

Click Add condition to add extra requirements that must be met before AIOD applies the discount. Use this when tier rewards should also depend on cart, customer, product, shipping, or other conditions.

Purchase type eligibility

Choose which purchase types qualify. Options:
  • Both
  • Subscription
  • One time purchase
Both was selected by default in the observed form. Use Limit number of subscription cycles to limit recurring subscription discount cycles. Leave the field blank to allow all subscription cycles.

Discount exclusions

Use Exclude already discounted items from discount (whose compare at price > selling price) to ignore items that are already discounted based on compare-at price.

Sales channel

The Sales channel section controls where the discount applies. Available channels:
  • Online store
  • POS
Both were checked by default in the observed form. When POS is enabled, All locations opens the location selector.

Widget design

Use Widget design to control the storefront progress widget and customer-facing tier messages.

Widget behavior

Options:
  • Show progress + apply discount
  • Apply discount only (no progress bar)
  • Show progress only (no discount applied)
Show progress + apply discount was selected by default in the observed form. AIOD explains that a progress bar appears and the discount applies automatically when customers reach eligible tiers.

Tier messaging

Each tier has its own customer-facing widget content. Default observed fields for Tier 1: Use Translations to manage translated tier copy. Use View Available Variables to inspect supported message variables.

Display options

Available display options:
  • Show remaining message
  • Show success message
  • Show currency symbol
All three were checked by default in the observed form.

Widget colors

The widget color editor includes theme presets and manual color fields. Default observed color fields: Other visual controls:
  • Icon Size
  • Add border/background color

Widget preview

The Widget Preview section shows the current success message and tier title. The observed preview showed:
  • 5% Discount Unlocked
  • Buy 2 Get 5% OFF
Use Reset Progress to reset the preview progress state.

Save

Click Save after configuring the offer, advanced settings, Show Discounted Price Crossout when applicable, widget design, status, and schedule.
