Use Discount Specific Item when a merchant wants to discount selected products, selected variants, selected collections, or all items. The template card says: “Apply discount to Product / Variant / Collection. Show strike-through prices on the product & collection pages.” The example shown in AIOD is “20% off on shirts.”

When to use this template

Use this template for:
  • A percentage discount on selected items.
  • A fixed amount discount on selected items.
  • A fixed final price for selected items.
  • A discount that applies to all items.
  • A simple sitewide or storewide discount, because Apply Discount to All discounts all items directly.
  • Item-level discounts that may need customer, channel, date, purchase type, or cart-condition limits.
Use another template for free gifts, BOGO, volume tiers, shipping discounts, or bundles of multiple discounts.

Entry point

In Shopify admin, open Apps > AIOD Discount & Gift > Discount Templates. Click Create on the Discount Specific Item card. AIOD opens a form titled Specific Product/Collection.

Top-level controls

If no Title is set for an automatic discount, the Discount ID can be shown to customers instead.

Status mode

The top-right status dropdown controls who can use or see the discount.

Discount method

The Discount Method section has two modes.

Automatic discount

Choose Automatic discount when the discount should apply automatically at cart or checkout. Settings shown in this mode:
  • Title: Customer-facing discount title.
  • Keep same as identifier: Copies the Discount ID into the title.
AIOD explains that customers see the title in their cart and at checkout.

Discount code

Choose Discount code when customers must enter a code at checkout. Settings shown in this mode:
  • Discount Code: Code input.
  • Generate random code: Generates a code.
  • Copy discount code: Copies the current code.
  • Add bulk discount codes: Opens a bulk-code dialog.
  • Maximum Discount Code Uses: Usage limits that only appear for code discounts.
The bulk-code dialog has two modes:
  • Enter manually: Enter comma-separated codes. Example format: SUMMER10, VIP2026, SAVE20.
  • Generate: Generate many codes with Prefix (optional), Suffix (optional), and How many codes. The maximum shown is 10,000 codes. AIOD shows sample generated codes before review.
Usage limit settings:
  • Limit number of times this discount can be used in total: Reveals a numeric input.
  • Limit to one use per customer: Restricts each customer to one use.

Select items to apply discount on

The Select items to apply discount on section controls the discount target. The collection picker opens a searchable Shopify resource picker. It shows collection rows, product counts, and checkboxes.

Discount value

The Discount Type dropdown controls how AIOD interprets Discount Value. When Fixed Final Price is selected, AIOD shows this helper text: “Final price of every single quantity of the above selected item.”

Sales channel

The Sales channel section controls where the discount applies. Available channels:
  • Online store
  • POS
Both are checked by default. When POS is enabled, All locations opens an inline location selector. It includes:
  • Search input with placeholder Search store.
  • All Locations checkbox.
  • Location rows such as Shop location with country information.

Customer segment

The Customer Segment section restricts the discount to selected customer segments. AIOD describes this section as: “This discount will be only applicable for customers in the selected segments.” Use Customer segments to choose eligible Shopify customer segments. If the store has no available segments, the list can appear empty.

Active dates

The Active Dates section controls when the discount starts and ends. Default fields:
  • Start Date
  • Start Time
Enable Set end date to reveal:
  • End Date
  • End Time

Advanced settings

Click Show in Advanced Settings (Optional) to reveal advanced controls.

When to apply discount

The When to apply discount section controls conditions. The default is Always. The condition picker contains these options: Use these conditions when the discount should apply only for a qualifying cart, item, customer, purchase type, or destination.

Where to apply the discount

The Where to apply the discount section has two radio options:
  • Product Level: Applies the discount to individual line items.
  • Order Level: Applies the discount to the whole order total once at the end.
Product Level is selected by default.

Discount rules and limits

The Discount Rules & Limits section includes optional constraints.

Purchase type eligibility

The Purchase Type Eligibility dropdown controls whether subscription and one-time purchase items qualify. Options:
  • One-time purchase
  • Subscription
  • Both
Both is selected by default. AIOD explains that the discount only applies to the selected purchase type items. Enable Limit the number of subscription cycles the discount will apply to. to reveal a numeric cycle-count input.

Save and rule size

The form has a Save button. AIOD also shows Shopify function rule size information, such as:
  • Rule Size: 1.10 KB / 10 KB
  • NOTE: This limit is set by Shopify
Mention the rule size when a merchant asks about Shopify limits or why a discount cannot include unlimited logic.

AI answering guidance

When an AI answers a merchant question about this template:
  • Refer to the app page as Specific Product/Collection.
  • Use Discount Specific Item as the template name.
  • Ask whether the merchant wants Automatic discount or Discount code if the prompt does not say.
  • Ask what the target is: collection, product, variant, or all items.
  • Ask for discount type and value.
  • Ask about channels, customer segments, combinations, dates, and advanced limits only when relevant.
