# Tiered/Volume Discount

> Template for creating quantity-based or cart-value-based tiered discounts in AIOD.

Use **Tiered/Volume Discount** when a merchant wants to reward customers as they buy more items or spend more money.

The template card says: "Offer tiered discounts based on quantity or cart value of items purchased." The example shown in AIOD is "Buy 3+, Save 15%."

## When to use this template

Use this template for:

* Buy 2 items, get 5% off.
* Buy 3 or more items, get a larger percentage off.
* Spend `$100`, get free shipping.
* Spend more to unlock a free gift.
* Volume discounts where each tier has its own reward.
* Progress-bar offers that show customers how close they are to the next tier.

Use another template when the discount is a single item-level discount, a classic BOGO offer, a simple free gift with purchase, or a shipping-only discount without volume tiers.

## Entry point

In Shopify admin, open **Apps** > **AIOD Discount & Gift** > **Discount Templates**.

Click **Create** on the **Tiered/Volume Discount** card. AIOD opens a form titled **Tiered/Volume Discount**.

## Top-level controls

The form is split into three tabs:

| Tab | What it controls |
| -------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Offer** | Discount targets, tier requirements, tier rewards, reward behavior, discount method, title, and schedule. |
| **Advance settings** | Customer eligibility, markets, quantity limits, extra conditions, purchase type, exclusions, combinations, and sales channel. |
| **Widget design** | Progress widget behavior, tier messages, colors, display locations, and preview. |

AIOD shows a **Discount Summary** panel while the merchant configures the offer. The summary includes how customers apply the discount, discount type, target, tier details, discount combinations, and Shopify rule size.

AIOD can show a theme-extension alert at the top of the form. The alert says **Required: Theme Extension Should Be Enabled** and includes **Activate theme extension**. The merchant must save the **Latest Widget Manager** extension in the theme editor when using the storefront widget.

### Status mode

The top-right status dropdown controls who can use or see the discount.

| Status | Meaning |
| ------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Live** | The discount is active for customers. |
| **Testing** or **Testing mode** | The discount is visible to the merchant for testing, but it is not live for customers. |
| **Deactive** | The discount is turned off. |

## Offer settings

| Requirement | Behavior |

| **Cart quantity** | Rewards unlock based on the total number of items in the customer's cart. |

When **Cart quantity** or **Item quantity** is selected, each tier uses **Minimum Quantity**.

When **Cart subtotal** or **Item subtotal** is selected, each tier uses **Minimum Subtotal**.

### Calculation method

The **Calculation method** card appears after the merchant selects a specific item target and an item-based requirement.

It appears for these combinations:

| Target | Requirement | Shows **Calculation method** |
| ------------------------ | -------------------------------------- | ---------------------------- |
| **All products** | **Cart quantity** or **Cart subtotal** | No |
| **Specific products** | **Item quantity** or **Item subtotal** | Yes |
| **Specific products** | **Cart quantity** or **Cart subtotal** | No |
| **Specific collections** | **Item quantity** or **Item subtotal** | Yes |
| **Specific collections** | **Cart quantity** or **Cart subtotal** | No |
| **Specific variants** | **Item quantity** or **Item subtotal** | Yes |
| **Specific variants** | **Cart quantity** or **Cart subtotal** | No |

The card says: "Choose whether the condition applies across all selected items or individually."

Options:

| Option | Behavior |
| ---------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Any selected items** | The customer can meet the tier requirement using any of the selected products, collection items, or variants. This was selected by default in the observed form. |
| **Each selected item** | Each selected product, collection item, or variant must meet the tier requirement individually. |

The examples change based on the requirement:

| Requirement | **Any selected items** example | **Each selected item** example |
| ----------------- | ----------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------- |
| **Item quantity** | `Eg: Buy 2 from any of the above selected items` | `Eg: Buy 2 of each of the above selected items` |
| **Item subtotal** | `Eg: Spend $100 from any of the above selected items` | `Eg: Spend $100 on each of the above selected items` |

The same card also shows **Selected item scope** with this helper text: "Choose how selected items are counted when checking the requirement."

Available **Selected item scope** options depend on the selected target:

| Target | Scope options |
| ------------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Specific products** | **Across all selected items**, **Same variant**, **Same product** |
| **Specific collections** | **Across all selected items**, **Same variant**, **Same product**, **Same collection** |
| **Specific variants** | **Across all selected items**, **Same variant** |

**Across all selected items** was selected by default in the observed form.

For **Any selected items**, **Across all selected items** means the total quantity or subtotal across any selected items in the cart must meet the requirement.

For **Each selected item**, **Across all selected items** means the quantity or subtotal for each selected item must meet the requirement.

### Set up your discount tiers

Each tier defines a minimum requirement and a reward.
