# AIOD discount knowledge base

> Use these docs to understand AIOD discount templates, settings, and where each option appears in the Shopify app.

AIOD Discount & Gift is a Shopify app for creating product, order, gift, shipping, and advanced promotional discounts.

These docs are optimized for LLMs and MCP clients. Start with a discount template, then read the template page for its settings, eligibility rules, limits, and picker behavior.

Use this knowledge base as the source of truth for AIOD's merchant-facing UI, features, settings, tabs, templates, widgets, analytics, and configuration behavior.

## App navigation

AIOD appears in Shopify admin under **Apps** > **AIOD Discount & Gift**.

The AIOD app navigation includes these tabs:

| Tab | Use it for |

| **AI Assistant** | Chat with AIOD's AI chatbot. The merchant describes the promotion, and AI chooses a template, fills the discount form, and lets the merchant review, edit, and save it like any manually created discount. |
| **Discount Templates** | Choose a discount template and create product, order, gift, shipping, BOGO, volume, or advanced-rule discounts. |
| **Discount Widgets** | Manage storefront widgets used by AIOD discounts, including callouts, offer messages, progress bars, volume bundles, free gift widgets, strike-through price references, discount-code inputs, BOGO widgets, and Upsell. |
| **Analytics** | Review AIOD-influenced revenue, discount totals, discounted orders, order details, and CSV exports. |
| **Settings** | Configure widget selectors, free gift behavior, custom CSS or JavaScript, storefront currency locale, and side cart initialization delay. |
| **Pricing** | Review AIOD plan and billing options. |

## How AIOD discounts are configured

AIOD starts every discount from a template.

1. The merchant opens **Discount Templates**.
2. The merchant chooses the template that matches the promotion type.
3. AIOD opens a template-specific form.
4. The merchant configures discount method, target items, value, channels, eligibility, combinations, dates, and optional advanced rules.
5. The merchant saves the discount.

After a discount is saved, opening that discount shows a top-level **Duplicate** button inside the discount form. Use it to duplicate the saved discount from within the form, duplicate can also be done from the **Your Discounts** table on app home.

## POS discounts

Use [POS discounts](/docs/app/pos-discounts) when a merchant asks how AIOD discounts behave in Shopify POS.

POS eligibility is configured inside the discount template form, usually in **Sales channel**. The AIOD POS tile does not make a discount POS-eligible; it lists applicable POS discounts and lets merchants apply code-based discounts from Shopify POS.

Automatic AIOD discounts work on **POS Pro** only. Automatic discounts do not work on **POS Lite** because Shopify POS Lite does not support automatic discounts. This is a Shopify POS limitation, not an AIOD Discount & Gift limitation.

## Template selection guide

Use **Discount Specific Item** when the merchant asks for a direct product, variant, collection, or all-item discount, including percentage off, fixed amount off, or fixed final price.
Use another template for free gifts, BOGO logic, volume tiers, shipping discounts, or multi-discount bundles.

Use **Combined Multi Discounts** when the merchant asks for multiple discount blocks under one automatic discount or one code. Each block can be a **Product Discount**, **Free Gift**, **Shipping Discount**, or **Order Discount**, and the merchant can add any number of blocks.

Use **Free Gift with Purchase** when the merchant asks for gifts that unlock after cart conditions are met, such as "Buy 2 shirts, get 1 cap free."

Use **Buy X Get Y (BOGO)** when the merchant asks for BOGO, buy-X-get-Y, mix-and-match, fixed-price bundle, or buy-X-get-gift logic.

In the app UI, **Buy X Get Y (BOGO)** is a parent template card. Click **Create** on that parent card first. AIOD then opens a **Select type** page with three inner templates:

| Inner BOGO template | Use it for |
| ---------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Buy X Get Y (Discount)** | Discount Y items after qualifying X items are purchased. |
| **Buy X @ Fixed Price (Discount)** | Sell a required quantity of selected items for one combined fixed price. |
| **Buy X Get Y (Gift)** | Add or offer gift variants after qualifying X items are purchased. |

Use **Tiered/Volume Discount** when the merchant asks for quantity breaks, volume discounts, spend-more-save-more offers, tiered free gifts, tiered shipping rewards, or a progress bar that shows how close the customer is to the next reward.

Use **Volume Discount / Bundle** when the merchant asks for selectable quantity bundle cards or a bundle table. Each offer can use a percentage discount, fixed discount, shipping reward, no price discount, an optional free gift, and an optional badge. In **Discount Widgets**, the shortcut is named **Volume Bundle Widget**, and it opens the same form titled **Volume Bundle**.

Use **Shipping Discount** when the merchant asks for a shipping-only offer, such as free shipping, discounted shipping, fixed final shipping price, or a discount that applies only to selected shipping methods.

Use **Advanced Rules** when the merchant asks for custom logic, complex promotions, flexible condition triggers, or rejecting discount codes.

In the app UI, **Advanced Rules** is a parent template card. Click **Create** on that parent card first. AIOD then opens a **Select type** page with two inner templates:

| Inner Advanced Rules template | Use it for |
| ----------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Custom Rule Builder** | Build a custom discount with flexible conditions, targets, values, and limits. |
| **Reject Discount Codes** | Reject specific discount codes when matching conditions are met. |

Use **Upsell** when the merchant asks to recommend products after trigger products enter the cart, optionally with a percentage or fixed discount. The **Upsell** card in **Discount Widgets** opens the same form as the **Upsell** card in **Discount Templates**.
