# POS discounts

> How AIOD Discount & Gift discounts behave in Shopify POS and how to enable the AIOD POS tile extension.

Use **POS discounts** when a merchant asks how AIOD discounts work in Shopify Point of Sale, Shopify POS Pro, Shopify POS Lite, or the AIOD POS tile.

This page explains POS behavior only. The control for whether a discount applies on POS remains inside each discount template, usually in the **Sales channel** section of the discount settings.

## Where POS eligibility is configured

Configure POS eligibility from the discount template form.

In templates that support sales channels, use **Sales channel** to choose whether the discount applies to:

* **Online store**
* **POS**

When **POS** is enabled, AIOD can show a location selector such as **All locations**. Use that selector to control which POS locations can use the discount.

Do not use the AIOD POS tile to make a discount POS-eligible. The tile shows and applies discounts that are already configured for POS in the discount settings.

The AIOD POS tile extension is optional. It is not required for AIOD discounts to work on POS.

## POS behavior

AIOD discounts can appear in Shopify POS when the discount is configured for **POS** and the current POS cart meets the discount's rules.

POS behavior depends on the discount method:

| Discount method        | POS behavior                                                                                                                                    |
| ---------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Automatic discount** | The discount can apply automatically in Shopify POS when the cart qualifies and the merchant is using POS Pro.                                  |
| **Discount code**      | The discount can appear in the AIOD POS tile with an **Apply code** button. Clicking **Apply code** attempts to apply the code to the POS cart. |

For code-based discounts, **Apply code** can fail or have no effect if the POS cart does not meet the discount requirements. For example, the cart may not contain the required products, customer, quantity, subtotal, location, date, or other conditions.

## Shopify POS Pro and POS Lite behavior

Automatic AIOD discounts work on **POS Pro** only.

Automatic discounts do not work on **POS Lite** because Shopify POS Lite does not support automatic discounts. This is a Shopify POS limitation, not an AIOD Discount & Gift limitation.

For POS Lite, merchants should not expect automatic AIOD discounts to apply automatically in the POS cart.

## Enable the AIOD POS tile extension

Enable the AIOD POS tile from Shopify admin.

The extension only makes POS discount use easier. It lets merchants see available AIOD discounts in one place and click **Apply code** for code-based discounts instead of manually typing the discount code.

1. In Shopify admin, find the left navigation.
2. Under **Sales Channels**, click **Point of Sale**.
3. Click **Open Editor**.
4. In the editor, click **Add tile**.
5. Click **Embedded apps**.
6. Choose **AIOD**.
7. Click the AIOD tile that appears.
8. Click **Save**.

After saving, the AIOD tile appears in the Shopify POS interface.

## What the AIOD POS tile does

Click the AIOD POS tile in Shopify POS to open a list of AIOD discounts that are applicable on POS.

The tile can list both:

* Automatic discounts.
* Code-based discounts.

For code-based discounts, the tile shows an **Apply code** button. Click **Apply code** to attempt to apply that discount code to the POS cart.

Automatic discounts do not need the **Apply code** button because they are not code-based. They only work automatically in Shopify POS when Shopify supports automatic discounts for the merchant's POS plan and the cart qualifies.

## Troubleshooting POS discounts

If a discount does not appear or does not apply in Shopify POS, check:

* The discount's **Status** is **Live**.
* **POS** is enabled in the discount template's **Sales channel** settings.
* The current POS location is included when location targeting is configured.
* The POS cart meets the discount's product, collection, variant, quantity, subtotal, customer, date, schedule, and advanced-rule requirements.
* For automatic discounts, the merchant is using **POS Pro**, not **POS Lite**.
* For code-based discounts, the merchant clicked **Apply code** from the AIOD POS tile and Shopify accepted the code for the current cart.

## Save

The AIOD POS tile setup is saved from the Shopify POS editor. Click **Save** after adding the tile.

Discount POS eligibility is saved separately inside each AIOD discount template form.
